Only one more week
One more week, and we will be in sunnier St. George! What a nice break from the snow that will be! This is also the first race of the season, yay! For details go check out www.intermountaincup.com. I was also able to obtain some prototype lightweight racing tires from Maxxis for free that I am anxious to try out. They only weigh 285 grams (actually, the one I weighed was only 280 grams!) Keep in mind these are prototypes and aren't in production yet, so I feel pretty darn special! To put it into perspective, a typical tire on a huffy weighs 800 grams or so, and there are about 450 grams to a pound, for all us non metric users out there.
So given the equation:
time diff (seconds) = race time (minutes) * weight diff (g) / total mass (kg) * 0.048
you can calculate just how much faster I will be with uber lightweight tires!

Behold the shadow!
notice how it doesn't stick out past the cassette, or sprockets for those of you unfamiliar with the lingo.
So my last Christmas present finallly arrived. It has been on backorder this whole time! It is the new Shimano xtr 972 Shadow rear derailleur. The nice thing about this is it sits under the rear cassette of the bike, and doesn't stick out (hence the name shadow) so it is less likely that it will get torn off by branches and rocks and such. Oh, and it is also just plain cool and even sports a carbon fiber pulley system for the ultimate in weight savings and stiffness! I know that most of you who read could care less about it, but I care and therefore it is blog worthy!

See the difference?
P.S. If you remember a while ago I posted about my new crankset and pedals that Cheryl was kind enough to get me for my birthday, this new derailleur matches that crankset, and it also matches the new shifter pods that I got for Christmas. Suh-weeet! Now I will totally win all my races this year for sure!

Gratititude
This morning I had the opportunity of attending the viewing of President Hinckley. I had heard many people on the news talk about the peaceful feeling that was there at the Conference Center. I have experienced peace in my life before, but this was different. It was truly amazing! The spirit was so strong, you couldn't help but feel overwhelmed with peace and comfort. I am grateful for the opportunities I had to attend the Conference Center and listen to his great wisdom. I am grateful for the example President Hinckley was to me.
While I am on the topic of gratitude, I would like to let Brian know how grateful I am for him. He is the best thing that has ever happened to me. Thank you Brian for your love and support!
