notice how it doesn't stick out past the cassette, or sprockets for those of you unfamiliar with the lingo.
So my last Christmas present finallly arrived. It has been on backorder this whole time! It is the new Shimano xtr 972 Shadow rear derailleur. The nice thing about this is it sits under the rear cassette of the bike, and doesn't stick out (hence the name shadow) so it is less likely that it will get torn off by branches and rocks and such. Oh, and it is also just plain cool and even sports a carbon fiber pulley system for the ultimate in weight savings and stiffness! I know that most of you who read could care less about it, but I care and therefore it is blog worthy!

See the difference?
P.S. If you remember a while ago I posted about my new crankset and pedals that Cheryl was kind enough to get me for my birthday, this new derailleur matches that crankset, and it also matches the new shifter pods that I got for Christmas. Suh-weeet! Now I will totally win all my races this year for sure!

cool.....I think.
yes, it is cool!
Ummm...what does it do?
didn't you read the post? It is the rear derailleur. It changes gears.
"changes gears" I understand..."derailleur" means nothing to me!!! :)
Brian - Lynette here (Kate's friend). I hear you are quite the cabinet maker? Wondered if you were interested in a small custom job?
It "derails" the chain onto another cog.
